Schema therapy is an innovative psychotherapy that integrates elements of cognitive-behavioural therapy, object relations, attachment theory and psychodynamic therapy. It has ben developed by Jeffrey Young for the treatment of personality disorders and chronic psychological disorders. Latest research results show that schema therapy is effective in the treatment of personality disorders.

This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the narcissistic patient’s schema therapy. The areas to be covered include the basic schema model and the schema mode model and the specific schemas and schema modes that characterize narcissistic personality disorder. The author provides an introduction to the schema therapy of the narcissistic patient and difficulties that arise during the treatment. Finally, a case study demonstrates how schema therapy works in practice with the narcissistic patient.
